Reminder: If you signed up for financial aid for your student to attend the 8th grade Washington DC trip, you are required to participate in all three fundraisers in order to receive financial aid. We have numerous students who have applied for financial aid and have not sold any cards to date. Card sales have been extended through Friday, November 17.
1st down payment is due on Nov. 20th for $100.00.
All money for DC cards must be at least 10 cards sold and your sheet with names MUST accompany order. The list will be sent back home with cards, but I am making a copy of sales.

The Margaretta Local School District is located in scenic northwestern Ohio (Erie & Sandusky Counties) along the shores of Lake Erie; and just minutes from Cedar Point. Margaretta Schools is a hub of several villages and townships that comprise the district. A strong community workforce is made up of a mixture of manufacturing, farming and service industries. Residents take great pride in their community and school system. It is an excellent area in which to pursue a career, raise a family and enjoy life on the shores of Ohio's Vacationland.
The Margaretta Local School District serves approximately twelve hundred (1200) students in grades pre-K through 12. It is comprised of two learning facilities: Margaretta Elementary houses the system's primary students in preschool - grade 5. Margaretta Middle/High School provides programs for students in grades 6-8 and 9-12.
The Margaretta Local School District sponsors Townsend Community School (TCS). Townsend provides a high quality education to its students and contributes significantly to Ohio's effort to provide quality education options to at-risk children through a vigorous, creative community-school program that prepares students for the 21st century.

The Margaretta Local Board of Education welcomes you to its public meeting and expresses its appreciation for your interest in its work and schools. Regular meetings of the Board of Education are held on the third Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m. and located at the Board of Education Office, 305 South Washington St. Specific dates, agendas and minutes are located on the district website.
The 2016-2017 school year at Margaretta High School proved to be a year of MIGHT, students taking on big tasks and overcoming them. Students have taken on some MIGHTY tasks that are representative of our great school seal. The four core areas of our school seal signify a balanced educational life. By the way, if you are not familiar with our school seal that is displayed in the Gym, Main Office, and now on our new podium designed and built by our very own students, these four core areas include academics, athletics/extra-curricular, fine arts, and leadership.
Our students have shown to be MIGHTY in their academics by earning 636 credit hours of college credit through college credit plus or AP classes. The senior class also earned $515,118 in scholarship money. The future looks bright for our newest graduates as 75% will be attending college, 24% will be entering the workforce, and 1% is entering the military.
Our students have been MIGHTY in athletics through tournament action in several sports including sectional, district, and state championships.
Our students have been MIGHTY in the fine arts by earning their way to state band competition, earning many art awards at the 5-County Art Show and Regional Governor's Show. They have earned numerous state and national FFA awards.
Our students have been extremely MIGHTY with their leadership skills, especially their work within the community. They raised thousands of dollars for Relay for Life, volunteered for Big Brothers, Big Sisters, conducted many activities for our elementary and middle school students, assisted shut-ins within our own community with clean up and home maintenance, helped with beautification efforts at our own school, and planned and participated in anti-drug and anti-bullying workshops.
I am only touching the surface of the MIGHT of our students. It is up to each of us to continue to support our students and one another in these core areas that help lead to success. Strength comes with some failures along the way. It is important to reflect back to our seal to evaluate where we are and where we are going as a school district and as a community. Families, our school district, community, nation, and global economy are all depending on our students to continue to develop and strengthen their four core areas.
As I reflect each day as your middle/high school principal, I am truly honored and blessed. You see, we need each other in this school district and community. That is why it is SO important to never forget WE ARE MARGARETTA!!

Extra Milk - $.50
Breakfast is offered to all students in Margaretta Local Schools. The cost of breakfast is $1.60. If you are a student that receives free or reduced priced lunches, those same benefits apply for breakfast. Reduced price breakfast is .30 and students eligible for free meals will receive both lunch and breakfast at no charge. Breakfast is served each morning in the school's cafeteria before classes begin.
FREE & REDUCED PRICE MEALS
Applications for free and reduced price meals are available for download on this website. Please complete one application per family and return with your child to school or you may mail it to the Board of Education Office, 305 S. Washington Street, Castalia, Ohio 44824; attention Sarah Ransom, Food Service Director. Applications must be submitted every year to continue on the program. If the application is approved, your child(ren) will begin to receive or continue to receive free or reduced price meals from the date of approval. A letter will be sent home notifying you of your child's meal status. Applications can be submitted at any time during the school year if your family financial circumstances change. All information submitted to the school is kept confidential. There is no discrimination or identification of free or reduced price paying students. We urge all families to consider filling out an application.
2017-2018 Free and Reduced Lunch Applications can be filled out any time throughout the school year if your income or family size changes.
FARM TO SCHOOL PROGRAM
We participate in the Farm to School Program where farm-fresh foods are incorporated into ur schools' menus. Thank you to our local farmers who participate. We also celebrate our state with an All Ohio Day menu where all foods offered that day for lunch are products of Ohio.
OUR CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAM
The Food Service department provides both breakfast and lunch at Margaretta High School and Margaretta Elementary. Margaretta's Food Service Program provides wholesome, nutritious meals while keeping in mind students preferences. School lunch meets 1/3 of the Recommended Daily Allowances set byNational School Lunch Program. In January 2008 the Department of Safety, Health and Nutrition after completing an audit of Margaretta's Food Service Program commended the staff on the "great job of meeting recommended daily allowances for iron, calcium, vitamins A and C as well as meeting the target levels for saturated fat and total fat". An Honorable Mention Stellar award for best nutrition practices was awarded to Margaretta's Food Services department in October 2011 from the Ohio Department of Education. We continually introduce new items that students should find fun and nutritious. Whole grains along with fresh fruits and vegetables are among the many choices offered to students every day for breakfast and lunch. Our goal is to serve a wholesome, nutritious meal everyday to every student at a moderate cost and the smiles are free!
COMPUTERIZED "MEALS PLUS" SYSTEM
Our schools have a computerized Meals Plus system. Each student has his or her own account regardless of free, reduced or paid status. The benefits of this system are students will not have to bring money to school everyday. You may pay by the week, month or longer if you prefer. This system provides a better method of protecting the confidentiality of free and reduced price students. This system also provides an excellent audit trail of all transactions. It also allows for faster and smoother serving lines enabling students to enjoy their lunch and free time with their friends. Meal pre-payments on student's accounts carry over year to year and school to school. Checks need to be made out to Margaretta Local Schools. Please write your child's name in the memo part of your check. Please send separate checks for each student unless they are in the same building. Please contact the school cashier or the food service office if you need specific information or have concerns about your child's account.
CAFETERIA POLICIES & PROCEDURES
I. Lunch Charge Policy
Cafeteria policy for elementary school students limits students to three charged lunches. A letter is sent home after the first charged lunch or when the account is $1.00 negative. A second letter is sent home after the second charged lunch. A third letter is sent home after the third charged lunch. After three lunches are charged and their accounts have a negative balance, the students will not receive the published lunch. These students will receive a peanut butter sandwich and a carton of milk until their negative balance is paid in full. Students with an allergy to peanuts will receive a cheese sandwich. Students with any negative amount are not allowed to purchase a la carte items, including milk. To notify parents having a negative balance, the following procedure will be in effect immediately. A free and reduced lunch form will accompany notification of the third lunch charged. Parents will have five (5) days to satisfy the balance, return a completed free or reduced lunch form or make other arrangements with the building principal. If no attempt has been made to satisfy the account or provide for the child's lunch within five (5) days, the building principal will notify Children's Services. Students at Margaretta Middle School are not allowed to charge lunches. A student who does not have enough money on their account for lunch will be asked to call home to notify the parent(s).The child will be allowed to purchase lunch that day only. The next day, if money is not received on their account, they will be given a peanut butter sandwich and a carton of milk until their negative balance is paid in full. Students with any negative amount are not allowed to purchase a la carte items, including milk. Students at Margaretta High School are not allowed to charge lunches.
II. Blocks on Accounts
A parent may call the school cafeteria or the Food Service Director to place a block on their child's account to prohibit the purchase of a la carte items.
III. Checks Returned for NonSufficient Funds
When a check is returned to the Treasurer's Office for NSF, the parent will be notified by phone call or email and the amount plus an NSF fee will be reversed from the student's lunch account. Payment for the NSF check must be in the form of cash, cashier's check, or money order. Payment must be received within ten (10) days of the notification. If payment is not received, it will be turned over to a collection service.
Withdrawn Student - For any student who is withdrawn, a written request for a refund of any money remaining in their account must be submitted. An email request is also acceptable.
V. Balances Owed at End of Year
All accounts must be settled at the end of a school year. Letters will be sent home approximately four to five days before the last day of school to for elementary students whose accounts are low. Balances over $1.00 may result in grade cards being held until the balance is paid in full. Balances may be checked or paid at any time at K12payment center.
VI. Unclaimed Funds
All refunds must be requested within one year. Unclaimed funds will then become the property of the Margaretta Local Schools cafeteria.

Are you a new student to Margaretta in 2017-2018? Please complete the New Student Registration Packet, then contact the Board of Education office at 419-684-5322 to schedule a registration appointment.
If you need to register your child for kindergarten, please contact the Board of Education office at 419-684-5322 as soon as possible. Screening was held back in May. Your child must be 5 years old by September 30, 2017, to be eligible for Kindergarten. Parents are encouraged to complete the Kindergarten Registration Packet prior to registering their child.

Townsend Community School (TCS) is a conversion community school established in 2011 and sponsored by the Margaretta Local School District. The credit-recovery school accomodates at-risk students in grades 9-12, and also offers adults education and college credit plus opportunities. It has a safe and innovative learning environment in a modern facility that allows each student to learn at their own pace.
As the sponsor of Townsend Community School, the Margaretta Local School District provides resources to support TCS. Our relationship with TCS is more like a partnership for an alternative educational delivery system to improve student achievement. Our commitment is to offer "managed growth" to meet the needs to each student by not trading enrollment and funding for individual student success.
SPONSOR MISSION STATEMENT
As a sponsor, the Margaretta Local School Disrict seeks to develop quality sponsoring practices and to sponsor innovative and high-performing community schools that provide choices to Ohio students who are seeking public education learning opportunities in alternative settings.
VALUES AND GOALS
1. Provide quality and proactive monitoring oversight and technical assistance to sponsored schools.
2. Conduct all sponsorship activities pursuant to Ohio law and strive to develop quality practices to further support sponsored schools in fulfilling their sponsorship contract.
3. Develop clear standards for approving new or existing charter schools to the extent that Margaretta Local School District has capacity and personnel available to sponsor additional schools.
4. Develop clear standards for renewing exisiting sponsored schools and only renewing schools that are consistent with Margaretta Local School District's Sponsor Mission Statement.
